Mitchell today published its Q2 2024 Plugged-In: EV Collision Insights report. This edition features the latest U.S. and Canadian claims data on battery electric vehicles (BEVs), mild hybrid electric vehicles (MHEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)—highlighting how differences in their complexity and construction are affecting claim costs and repair operations.
In today’s remote and hybrid work environments, accidents are on the rise. The most common injuries plaguing employees are in the back, shoulders, hands and wrists. These injuries often result from overuse and improper workstation setup. Spending long hours seated at a desk in front of a screen, and poor ergonomics can lead to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) – injuries that affect muscles, nerves, ligaments, joints and cartilage. These issues may start as minor discomforts but can worsen over time due to repeated trauma.
Claims frequency for repairable, collision-damaged battery electric vehicles (BEVs) rose to 2.5% in the U.S. and 3.94% in Canada in Q2 2024—a year-over-year increase of 45% and 39% respectively. According to the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, EVs represented 9.3% of new U.S. light-duty vehicle sales in Q1 2024, down from 10.2% in Q4 2023. Similarly, in Canada BEV sales fell to 9.2% last quarter, down from 10% in Q4 2023.
